Caforio on SoCal Gas Request to Reopen Porter Ranch Facility

Statement

Date: Nov. 2, 2016
Location: Santa Clarita, CA
Issues: Oil and Gas

Today, Southern California Gas Company announced it completed a series of state-requested inspections and repairs, and it requested that state regulators certify the facility can resume operations. In response, Bryan Caforio, candidate for Congress in California's 25th District, issued the following statement:

"We must exercise caution until SoCal Gas can definitively establish what caused the leak and can guarantee there are safeguards in place. We cannot rush this process while the Public Utilities Commission and the Division of Oil, Gas, and Geothermal Resources has yet to complete their joint investigation and only a quarter of the facility's wells have been overhauled.

"We must ensure the existence of proper safeguards because we cannot allow SoCal Gas to once again put profits over people and our community at risk."
